Diesel Electric propulsion – Q & A

Over the last few years we have seen a dramatic increase in the acceptance of Electric technology, largely driven by growth in the automotive industry. Clients are increasingly knowledgeable about the Diesel Electric system although there are multiple questions which come up repeatedly in early discussions. We will look at some of these questions in this and forthcoming issues of Logbook.

WIDER 165 – an insight on the interior by Ideaeitalia design studio

While the striking exterior lines of the Wider 165 – project ‘Cecilia’ – clearly show her to be the sister of the Wider 150 ‘Bartali’, like all siblings she has her own distinct personality expressed in her interior décor. La Spezia based Ideaitalia design studio has crafted an interior that is both elegant and exciting, making the most of innovative Italian style, craftsmanship and finishes.

Significant progress on WIDER 165 – Project Cecilia

A busy month at the shipyard has seen significant progress on the WIDER 165 'Cecilia', which remains on track for her launch in late Q1 of 2018.

Having recently installed the switch boards that control the power requirements for both hotel as well as propulsion another significant milestone is due to be completed in the next week: the installation of the azimuthal pods and electric motors which offer increased manoeuvrability compared to the twin shafts used on traditional yachts.
